This 1200A rating plug determines the current amp rating for the breaker. Older and originally breakers used a static trip unit with thermal and instantaneous overload protection. New state-of-the-art electronic breakers now function internally and current amp ratings are governed by the rating plug. Rating plugs are very economical in cost whereas trip units can cost as much as 50% the cost of the breaker.
